NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT

WHAT IS A NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT?

A neuropsychological assessment evaluates how changes in a person’s brain health affects their cognitive, behavioural, social, and emotional functioning. A neuropsychological assessment may be requested for the following purposes:

  • To determine if a person’s cognitive changes are due to normal aging, a neurological illness, a psychiatric disorder, or other causes

  • To determine a person’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses after a neurological event or injury, such as a stroke or traumatic brain injury

  • To measure progress in regaining cognitive skills following an acquired brain injury

  • To monitor cognitive functioning associated with various brain disorders (e.g., dementia)

  • To help plan a treatment and rehabilitation

Neuropsychological tests measure a wide range of cognitive abilities, including:

  • General intelligence

  • Language

  • Learning and memory

  • Processing speed

  • Visuospatial skills

  • Sensorimotor functions

  • Executive functions (e.g., organizing, planning, problem solving, multitasking, making judgments, and maintaining self-control)

One’s emotional health and quality of life are also evaluated.

Fees for a neuropsychological assessment includes fees for both direct and indirect services provided by a Registered Psychologist. Direct services include scheduled in-person or virtual appointments. Indirect services include scoring of tests, interpretation of test results, and report preparation. The length of testing may vary depending on each individual client’s needs and issues being assessed. At Cognostic, services provided by our Registered Psychologists are based on an hourly rate of $240.00.
