SUPPORT ELIGIBILITY ASSESSMENT
Disability Tax Credit (DTC) Assessment and Renewal
Eligibility for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) is not based on a diagnosis alone, such as a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Rather, eligibility is based on how an individual's impairments affect everyday functioning and whether the eligibility criteria established by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) are met.
For individuals applying or reapplying for the DTC, an assessment may be needed to document current adaptive functioning and mental functions necessary for everyday life if you require one of our psychologists to complete the application form. When a significant amount of time has elapsed since the previous assessment, or when the individual’s functioning has changed, an updated assessment may be required to provide current information about their functional limitations, as DTC eligibility is not based on a diagnosis alone.

Transition Planning and Eligibility for Adult Services
Transition planning is essential for individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or Intellectual Disability. Beginning transition planning as early as age 16 is recommended, as it allows adequate time to prepare for adulthood and identify appropriate supports before age 19. This proactive approach can help determine eligibility for important services and programs, such as Community Living BC (CLBC) and vocational training programs.

Assessment Process
The assessment process varies depending on the time elapsed since the previous assessment and the nature of the neurodevelopmental disorder(s) previously identified. An updated assessment may be recommended when current information about an individual's cognitive, adaptive, or functional abilities is required to support transition planning or determine eligibility for adult services.

ASSESSMENT PROCESS MAY INVOLVE:
-
Adaptive functioning interview with parents or caregivers
-
Interview with the client
-
Intellectual functioning evaluation
-
Academic functioning evaluation (when requested and if appropriate)
-
File review, scoring, and preparation of assessment report
-
Completion of DTC or CLBC application forms
-
Feedback session
