AUSTIM FUNDING CHANGES - FAQ (AS OF FEB 2026)
The following information has been prepared in response to autism funding changes in 2027 and to address common questions from families. Information related to funding may change as updates are released. Please do not rely on this as the most current source of information.
The information regarding our clinical services and professional role remains unchanged. We provide diagnostic assessment services and may complete certain forms when requested and clinically appropriate.
What do I need to do to apply for autism funding next year?
We recommend monitoring official BC government communications for updates. At this time, we do not have information about the steps families will need to take to apply for autism-related funding in 2027. No specific application process or specific requirements have been shared publicly.

What level of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) does my child have?
Your child’s level is listed in the our assessment reports under Diagnosis. The level reflects your child’s support needs at the time of assessment. Children’s functioning and support needs can change over time, and it is not possible to predict future levels of support that may be required.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnosis includes three support levels:
-
Level 1 – Requiring support
-
Level 2 – Requiring substantial support
-
Level 3 – Requiring very substantial support

How will my child’s autism level affect future funding?
Autism diagnostic levels describe support level/needs at the time of assessment and in many cases, may not reflect future functioning or needs. A child’s functioning and support needs can change over time, and funding decisions are made by external agencies and may also change.
At this time, we do not have any additional information regarding future autism funding beyond what has been publicly released by the BC government. We do not have details about how funding will be structured in 2027, including exact eligibility criteria or application processes.

Can you help us secure future funding and complete any new forms?
Our role is to provide diagnostic assessment services to determine whether a child meets criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder and to outline supports or recommendations that may be considered based on assessment findings.
Funding programs and supports are managed by external agencies and may change over time. While we may be able to complete certain funding application forms when requested, completing a form requires that the clinical information meets the eligibility criteria established by the external agency at the time of application.
All forms and related support applications must be based on assessment results and the documentation required to support the application, unless a specific diagnosis is required for the funding or support. Some applications/forms require information about a child’s functioning at the time of application and eligibility criteria vary. In many cases, this means that an updated assessment of functioning is required in order to provide accurate and appropriate information. The need for an update depends on the specific program criteria and how long ago the previous assessment was completed. However, an updated assessment of functioning does not mean that a full autism assessment needs to be repeated. Each case is considered individually.
Can you help with the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) application?
Eligibility for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) is based on a child’s functioning and functional limitations, not on the diagnosis alone. Approval depends on how the child is functioning at the time of application.
Any DTC documentation must reflect current functioning and impact at the time of application. Because children’s functioning can change, information from an assessment may become outdated. For example, if an assessment was completed more than approximately six months ago, an updated interview or brief reassessment may be required. The need for an update depends on factors such as the child’s age, time since assessment, and any changes in functioning. Each case is considered individually.
